Route 146 Reconstruction
Lincoln, RI

Design 2023
Construction 2023-2024

The project included the design of the temporary support of excavation systems for the Louisquisset Pike Bridges (Bridge Nos. 074851 & 074871) as part of the Route 146 Reconstruction project in Lincoln, Rhode Island. The project involved replacement of the existing I-295 bridges that span over Route 146. The temporary support of excavation systems was required for the construction of the new bridge pier footings, partial demolition of the existing wing walls, and partial demolition of the existing abutments. Multiple SOEs were required at each abutment to support the multi-phase construction techniques used to limit disturbance to traffic. Three different types of support of excavation systems required design, including a gravity precast concrete block retaining wall, a cantilevered soldier pile and lagging wall, and a steel road plate system that is anchored to the existing abutment and approach slab.
